The History of Whole Body Vibration Technology

Vibration therapy was discovered in 1857 by a Swedish doctor, Gustav Zander, who built several different exercise machines – some of which incorporated a type of vibration exercise. After exhibiting his machines at two World Fairs, he started the Zander Institutes, (an early form of today’s health clubs), which proved to be very popular throughout the world.

In 1895, in Battle Creek, Michigan, the developer of Corn Flakes, Dr. John Harvey Kellogg, invented an FBV machine.

By 1960, the beginning of today’s standard of vibration exercise arose. In East Germany, a technique called rhythmic neuromuscular stimulation was being used.

Russian scientists began studies of FBV in order to help rehabilitate their cosmonauts after returning from space – repairing muscles from atrophy and bone density due to the weightlessness of space. These Russian Scientists and researchers found that not only did this technology stop the loss of bone density, but amazingly it increased it and strengthened muscle tissue.

In 1995, a Russian Cosmonaut (and medical doctor) named Valery Polakov set a world record for being in space for 438 days thanks to vibration technology. Because of the Russian’s advantage of vibration technology, their astronauts were able to stay in space for 420+ days, while American astronauts had to return after 120 days.

The Russians also used this technology to prevent injuries to their Olympic athletes. In the event one of their athletes did injure themselves, they were put on a FBV plate to rehabilitate the damage. In 1960 the Russian Olympic teams trained using the FBV for the games and took home 43 gold medals.

After the fall of Communism, FBV technology made its way east to west and continued to be studied and enhanced. Today after decades of research, FBV is used by NASA, professional sports teams and athletes, medical centers, spas and health clubs.

Infrared Sauna History

Infrared saunas are a revolutionary step in sauna technology, and one that can generate

strong opinions among sauna enthusiasts. Because infrared saunas use different

technology, different materials, and create an experience that is slightly different from a

traditional sauna, it is inevitable that bathers around the world vary in their feelings for

this alternative sauna heating mechanism.

The infrared heater, which operates quite differently from a traditional sauna heater, has

added a completely new dimension to the sauna experience and paved the way for

many more people to become sauna enthusiasts.

How do Infrared Saunas Work?

Infrared saunas work using infrared heaters to convert light directly to heat. This heat

has the effect of warming nearby objects without raising the air temperature; in others

words, a bather in an infrared sauna absorbs heat but the surrounding air does not.

Far-infrared radiant (FIR) heat is often confused with ultraviolet (UV) radiation because

both types of energy are present in the sun’s rays. However, FIR does not damage the

skin the way UV does while still providing many of the benefits of natural sunlight.

How does the Infrared Sauna Compare to a Traditional Sauna?

We have already talked about some of the differences between infrared saunas and

traditional saunas, so let’s look at a few more comparisons as well.

In infrared saunas, heat penetrates deep into body tissues in a way that a traditional

Alkaline Water

Water ionization was first developed in Japan in the early 50’s and the experiments were first conducted on plants and animals. Full scale development started in 1954 by several Japanese agricultural universities on the effects of Reduced Alkaline Water, especially acid water, on plants. Today, nursery farmers that supply cut flowers use acid water to keep flowers longer before delivery to the flower shops; Golf courses use acid water on the greens and fairways without the need of chemicals; Hospitals use acidic water as an astringent for killing germs and bacteria.

 

Experiments on the human body took much longer because of the difficulties in maintaining the constancy of the environments. Nevertheless, through long, patient experiments by the medical doctors in Japan, much valuable data has been collected and it was concluded that Reduced Alkaline Water made by the water ionizer was non-toxic and alleviated many symptoms of adult diseases.

 

The first commercial Reduced Alkaline Water ionizers were available in Japan in 1958. Until then, the only water ionizers available were large units used in hospitals. In 1960, a group of medical doctors and agricultural doctors in Japan formed a special medical and agricultural research institute, and they have annual meetings to report their findings. Finally, in January 15th, 1966, this type of Reduced Alkaline Water ionizer was approved as a health improvement medical device by the Health and Rehabilitation Ministry of the Japanese Government.

Japanese-made ionizers were first introduced to Korea in the 70’s, and today they are also approved as medical devices by the government of South Korea. Korean-made household unit were introduced in the United States in 1985 and a toxicity test was conducted by an independent testing laboratory in LA on April 14, 1986. The test found no toxicity in the water generated by the water ionizer. This testing was done according to FDA specified methods.

How It Works

Alkaline & Acidic Water

Tap water is filtered by an activated charcoal filter. Water is electrolyzed (+- electrodes) then Alkaline and Acidic Water are produced. They are created simultaneously, 70% Alkaline Water and 30 Acidic water. Both waters have exceptional properties and benefits, however, their uses are different. Alkaline water is what we consume and the Acidic water is used externally for beauty and antiseptic applications.

Smaller Mineral Clusters

The smaller mineral clusters, as measured by the use of a Nuclear Magnetic Resonance device is a more hydrating water than normal tap water. Through electrolysis large tap mineral clusters are reduced from their original size. The smaller cluster size gives the water excellent hydrating properties, high solubility and good permeability.

Oxidation of Healthy Cells

Oxidation of healthy cells by too much oxygen (free radicals) in the body, breaks down the cells, making them susceptible to disease. Alkaline Water readily donates its abundant electrons to render excessive free radicals harmless so that they do not “steal” electrons from healthy living cells. Our bodies need to be able to eliminate or buffer over acidic conditions caused by diet, stress, physical activity, toxins and other sources. The electrolysis process concentrates available alkaline minerals in the source water to aid the buffering systems in the body.

Adequate pH

Though dependant upon the source water, the unit produces an adequate range of pH through the five level settings. These settings are computer controlled and has the ability to stabilize the pH of the output water after electrolysis.

On the pH scale, which ranges from 0 on the acidic end to 14 on the alkaline end, a solution is neutral if its pH is 7. At pH 7, water contains equal concentrations of H+ and OH- ions. Substances with a pH less than 7 are acidic because they contain a higher concentration of H+ ions. Substances with a pH higher than 7 are alkaline because they contain a higher concentration of OH- than H+. The pH scale is a log scale so a change of one pH unit means a tenfold change in the concentration of hydrogen ions.

Living things are extremely sensitive to pH and function best (with certain exceptions, such as certain portions of the digestive tract) when solutions are nearly neutral. Most interior living matter (excluding the cell nucleus) has a pH of about 6.8. Blood plasma and other fluids that surround the cells in the body have a pH of 7.2 to 7.3. Numerous special mechanisms aid in stabilizing these fluids so that cells will not be subject to appreciable fluctuations in pH.

Substances which serve as mechanisms to stabilize pH are called buffers. Buffers have the capacity to bond ions and remove them from solution whenever their concentration begins to rise. Conversely, buffers can release ions whenever their concentration begins to fall. Buffers thus help to minimize the fluctuations in pH. This is an important function because many biochemical reactions normally occurring in living organisms either release or use up ions. Calcium is the body’s main acid buffer. This is why there is a calcium crisis in health.
